Bibio's first material since his hauntology-esq Phantom Brickworks arrives with two sidewinders that are 2 steps towards the sort of bass-heavy watermelon mashers we might once have labelled (decent) dubstep. While it may come as a surprise to some to hear Bibio leaving his usual studio sound behind in favour of more “club”, for want of a better word, music, we can confirm that having seen him tear up a 'floor or two with his properly rinsing ragga jungle DJ sets, Zen Drums/Dada Drums is a sideways step that is well worthy of your time.If you do not get it you probably just need to turn the volume up.
The truest Freaks Of Nature, Sleep D, are following up their hot ‘n’ heavy “F.O.N” series with Vol. 2; rammed start to finish with juiced up club exhilarations - you can’t afford to miss this.Australia’s notoriously prolific duo are celebrating all things bass, the 3 tech-tinged party starters are a force to be reckoned with, an official warning of high voltage (and speed). Welcoming back Butter Sessions alumni Ivy Barkakati & Furious Frank, the sun kissed acid anthem Ahora Sí metamorphosizes into a peak-time prog punisher Border Control where sensual whispers weave their way through a slick sexy drum maze, a darker rendition merging past, present and futuristic fantasies. Post Pump elevates tech house to immaculate status, undeniable deep groove unlocked through their signature bump and bounce; a combination of wild A side audio energies finding their home on freaky finale Bass’d In Berlin. Close your eyes, strap in and surrender control, Sleep D once again showcasing what they do best; modern dance from down under.
After 25 years in the game, Detroit’s original Norm Talley commits a stonking debut album to F.X.H.E., giving the label boss a run for his money with some of the rawest, deepest, soulful 313 gear we’ve heard since the last Omar-S LP. No messing, this is one of the strongest house albums you’ll hear all year!Since emerging from the mentorship of Ken Collier as a member of Detroit’s West 6 Mile Crew, Norm Talley has remained true to the artform of Detroit house, factoring its disco touchstones into the modern day in much the same way as Anthony Shakir, Omar-S or KDJ, but perhaps never really receiving so much recognition outside the city. Bringing a timelessly direct, burning sound to the fore in all 14 tracks, we’d like to wager that Norm-A-Lize is set to garner Talley the wider love he deserves from newer, younger generations and veteran heads alike. Seriously, this is the kind of gear you don’t hear every day - from the on-point sampling to the rugged knock and swang of his drums and bass, this is totally prime, irresistible dancing gear that works miles away from precious tech-house bodgers and delivers more ecstasy in your pants than any ‘90s trance anphem.Just watching the EQ on our mixer, we can see the acres of space and dynamic in each groove, from the peak-time disco-house peaches of Get It Right and the Shake/Soundhack-esque chord chops of Dub Station, thru the Roulé burn of Alright with L’Renee, to the way those toms and rimshot just bang thru the mix on The Dream, then you’ve got the pendulous, sub-swung aerobics of Earth Vabrations, the mean-ass Afro-cubist techno swerve of Cause I Believe, those jazz funk riffs on Paradise Garage, Stingray-ready techno in The Body, and some proper, grumbling dub techno in The Rise.Seeeeriously, all dancers, DJs, this is just 100% essential!
INNER LIGHT - Joe Claussell Sacred Rhythms Versions (2022)Nicola Conte & Gianluca Petrella’s 2021 brilliant collaborative jazz dance album “People Need People” channelled a vision of togetherness and used the universal language of music to elevate our spirit during these trying times. This vision can’t be more relevant today and the album’s legacy is kept alive with the same spirit of collaboration that distinguished the project. “Inner Light” - featuring Raashan Ahmad on vocals - is the frst song from the album chosen for a series of reinterpretations of the project that will be released throughout 2022. Joaquin Joe Claussell needs no introduction, the Body & Soul founder and Sacred Rhythm label honcho is a true legend and purveyor of spirituality – a cosmic messenger that brings us two versions of“Inner Light”; his work here is not to be solely intended as a remix but, as the title suggests, delivers two new proper versions of the original song. This EP is the frst in a trilogy of 12” releases that will also feature further reinterpretations of tracks taken from the “People Need People” album, by none less than Anthony Nicholson, DJ Spinna and Tall Black Guy!
