Club Of Jacks digs deep here to serve up some classic tracks from the archive that have not been available on vinyl before. First up is UKG royalty Jeremy Sylvester with a remix of 'Waiting For You' that is pure party. The drums and bass bounce and plunge low with sustained chords and a honeyed vocal getting the vibes going. A deeper, dubbier and more laid back but still emotive 23 Remix follows then Plastik People boss Marc Cotterell serves up a soulful remix of 'All That Shaking' that is full of steamy sax and sunny day goodness. A Club of Jacks 23 Refix brings a deep vibe to close a superb EP.
The unstoppable Steve O'Sullivan brings more of his irresistible dub techno goodness to this heavyweight 12" for Taste Not Waste. By now you will be familiar with the sort of sound Steve deals in but somehow it never seems to get old. This one kicks off with a tight and tech-infused roller with clipped kicks and playful chords that bring feel-good vibes. 'Awakening' then has pinging kicks and vamping chords to enliven any floor and last of all is 'The Feels'. It's another perfectly executed club cut with oodles of warm bass and super smooth grooves.
Underground Resistance is one of the last true and proper connections to the original techno scene that we have left. While many of the early pioneers have sold out, released the same old tricks or become heritage acts, this label and collective never quits looking forwards. Spoken-word artist Mike Ellison is behind this EP, which is one of three the label has out in March, including a remastered reissue of the 2004 single 'Windchime' by Perception and Mike Banks. This is warm, soulful house meets techno with pensive lyrics and plenty of dynamite rhythms for the dance floor. It comes in various different and equally effective mixes.
Rory McPike dons his Pickleman alter-ego with this authentic foundation jungle roll-out. Sprung with a bouncy two step and laced with coiled percussion and planet-bounding textures, FX and pads, it nods neatly at the Goodlooking legacy without resorting to nostalgia. Tim Reaper adds more layers of his own authentic palette with more drums, perfectly splashed cymbals and jazzier hints on the chords while Mecca adds the final chapter with a much dubbier late night version that wouldn't go amiss in the Digital set. Detrimental might want to lose the 'Detri' bit of their name some time soon.
